“THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.”

IN SHANNON THIS WEEK.

I'iie modern world laughed iu defiance at the fundamental laws -of morality. Then came tlie World War, which drenched the nations with blood, and now tlie old derision has changed to helpless and bewildered drifting and seeking for what? There will be no answer to the question or the quest until we ietuirn to the faith of our forefathers for .precepts flouted, and laws defied bring their own punishment. This in brief, is the theme of Paramount’s “The Ten Commandments,” which will be screened in Shannon on Wednesday and Friday. It is claimed that not since “Intolerance” has such a powerful document been released to the world—a document that will have a message to humanity, a message that is as old as the the world and as new as to-morrow. Cecil B. De Mille is said to have produced a masterpiece. The picture is in fourteen parts, the first four parts a Biblical prologue showing the birth of the Ten Commandments, and the remainder of the play, a story showing the application of the Commandments to our modern social and moral codes.

Egyptian Monuments surpassed all others not -only in size but likewise in proportion and -refinement. The laws of perspective, symmetry, harmony and com position were thoroughly understood. On Egyptian measurements Mr De Mille modelled his reproduction of the City of Baineses, in his big production, “The Ten Commandments” which Scripture tells us was built by Israelite forced labour under Pharouli’s taskmasters. The main construction of the City gate and side walls is 750 feet in length and 109 feet high. Four huge colossi of the Pharaohs guards the "approach which is led up to by an avenue of 2'f Sphinxes.
