"WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION."

COUNTY RANGER TO PROSECUTE OFFENDING OWNERS. The County Ranger reported at Sat urday's County Council meeting that he bad impounded 52 head of stock during last month. Cr. Jensen said he noticed that no stock was impounded in Te Horo Riding and there were many complaints. It seemed that the stock was put out at night. Cr. Catley said the ranging should have some consideration. It would take a super-man to cover such an area as the County properly and the Council should re-organise the system, even if it had to pay more to have it done or get more, men. The chairman said his cure was—one offence and then a summons. Until they adopted that method, if they had ten men out they would not cope with the trouble. He asked the Engineer to get the Ranger to clean Waikanae up. He had asked for it at last meeting and had to asked again, —and use the method he had suggested. Cr. Harkness: Without discrimination. The Chairman: Yes, without discrimination. Allegations of that sort usually come from the man who is caught. If summonses are issued against offenders one man should be able to do the work. Cr. Ryder agreed that with more summoning the present Ranger could do the work. It was the regular offender who made it hard. The settlers could help the Ranger materially by giving him information. (Laughter).
