LOST £15,000 BY TRICK.
A MERCHANT DECEIVED. ATTEMPT, TO BEAT 'CHANGE. VANCOUVER, June 27. ' J. V. Lord, an Adelaide merchant, has written to the Vancouver police asking for their assistance to secure, if possible, the return of £15,000 of which "Tiger Jack's Gang" defrauded him five months ago while he was travelling. Lord, accompanied by his wife and daughter, met an affable stranger in Honolulu, who joined their party, travelling with them to San Francisco and then to Vancouver. There he introduced a friend, who proposed a method to beat the Vancouver Stock Exchange.
The result was that Lord lost £SOOO when that deal went wrong, but, having no suspicions, cabled for an additional £IO,OOO from Adelaide. This, too, he lost.
