TOO MANY LAWYERS.
EVIDENCE OF PROFESSORS. AUCKLAND, June 29. “How many lawyers can New Zealand absorb?” asked Mr F. Tait, member of the University Commission, when evidence was being heard. ■ Professor Hunter said there were 210 law students at Victoria College and Professor Algie said there were 180 at Auckland. Tiie Hon. George Fowlds said the students had no choice in Auckland. They either had to take law or education, or go to Dunedin, which they could not afford. Most of the students went to the bar. Professor Hunter said that a great .many of the 210 students at Victoria College would never get through. The casualty list was high. . Mr Tait: You see to that. A resident of Paraparauinu a short while ago, while taking note of some building operations on a section belonging to him, was idly kicking what he thought to be a stone, but upon examination, this proved to be a beautifully carved greenstone kuru, or Maori ear ornament, about six inches in length.
