BETTER MARKET FOR FAT SHEEP.
CHRISTCHURCH Last Night. At Addington market, the yardings to-day were heavier in practically all classes of stock. Store sheep was down in value, as also were fat cattle, but fat sheep sold well. Store sheep had a sluggish sale and prices were well below those of last week, particularly for wether hoggets Odd pens of sound-mouthed ewes sold moderately well. Forward 4 and C .li halfbred wethers made 32/ to 34/; ordinary, 28/- to 30/; 2th. crossbred wethers, 2S/1 to 2S/6; Corriedale ewe hoggets, 30/6; halfbred wether hoggets, 18/9 to 22/-; good crossbred wether hoggets 21/ to 23/9; ordinary 18/- to 20/6; threequarterbred ewe hoggets, 25/6 to 28/9; sound-mouthed crossbred ew r es in lamb, 28/ to 35/; aged ewes in lamb, 17/ to 24/; aged low-conditioned ewes 12/ to 16/. Fat Lambs.-—A large entry, comprising 2,000 head, and a good sale at full schedule rates for prime lambs. Extra prime lambs realised 43/3; prime 37/6 to 40/; medium, 34/ to 37/; fat, 30/6 to 33/6; store lambs, 25/ to 29/. Fat Sheep. This section had heavy yardings, but a very brisk sale, values being ahead of last week by 1/6 to 2/- a head. Exporters operated freely. Extra prime wethers made 47/1; prime 42/ to 45/; medium, 38/6 to 41/6; light, 33/ to 38/; extra prime ewes 43/10, prime 35/ to 38/, medium 31/6 to 34/6; light 26/6 to 31/;'aged 21/ to 25/. Fat Cattle. A very heavy yarding of 650 head, being much in excess of requirements there was a drop on last week’s prices of 2/- per lOOlbs. The concluding races were very hard to sell. Extra prime steers fetched £l9 2/6; prime, £l3 15/ to £l6; medium, £ll 10/ to £l3 12/6; light, £8 5/ to £ll 5/; rough £7 to £8; extra prime heifers, £l2 17/6; prime, £7 15/ to £lO 10/; ordinary, £5 to £7 5/; extra prime cows, £l2 10/ to £7 5/ to £10; medium, £5 5/ to £7; light £4 to £5 2/6; aged, £3 15/. Vealers.—Good Vealers sold well. Runners made to £6; good vealers, £4 to £5 5/; calves, 10/ to £3 15/. Store Cattle. A larger entry and a good sale. Three and four year steers made to £7; 2yr. old heifers £4 2/6; cows £4.
Dairy cattle experience's an easing in values. Best second to fourth calvers brought £9 to £ls 10/; others £3 to £8 10/; best springing heifers, £7 to £lO 10/. Pat Pigs.—A heavy entry, with a slow sale. Choppers were worth £3 to £7 5/; baconers £3 10/ to £5 11/ (average price per lb. 6d to 7d); porkers, £2 2/- to £3 (average price per lb., 6Jd to 7|d). Store Pigs. A medium entry. Weaners 10/ to 18/; stores 23/ to 46/? sows in pig £3 2/6 to £4 2/6.

Messrs. Abraham .and Williams Ltd. and Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., report as follows on their Johnsonville sale, held yesterday:—The usual number of cattle came forward, including very good quality bullocks. The demand was keen throughout and prices were in advance of the previous week’s quotations. A medium yarding of good sheep sold at late rates. The few lambs yarded sold well. The yarding of vealers met with very spirited bidding. We quote:—Best bx. £l4, £l4 15/-, £ls, £ls 2/6 to £l6; good ox, £l3, £l3 5/- to £l3 15/-; lighter: £ll 17/6 to £l2 10/-; best wethers, £2 10/7; good wethers, £2 1/-, £2 4/- to £2 5/9; heavy ewes, £2 9/-; good ewes, 30/6 to 38/-; black-face wethers, 34/- to 35/5; light lambs, 25/-; others, 33/- to 35/9; extra heavy, £2 4/-.
