THE WOOL TRADE.
. Substitutes on the Continent. The London representative of the Melbourne “Herald” cabled on April 11 with reference to the experience cf Mr. Norman Myer, .a Melbourne merchant, who made extensive piyrchases in England and on the Continent. Mr. Myer said that the Vienna and Leipzig fairs' displayed an unexampled collection of novelties. Austria was producing wonderful merchandise, and was becoming the leading market for artificial silks of the best value in the world. France and Italy were producing wool from wood pulp. At present this was in the experimental stage. The product could be woven into anything for which wool was now used. It was cheaper than wool, and had a mercerised appearance like silk and woci mixed. Germany was well on her feel, and anxious to do business. He had bought a fair amount there, and had received good values.
