FOOTBALL NOTES ON SHANNON PLAYERS.
(By Old Rep.) Hunt at full back plays.a very good game, fine kick. His main fault is that he speculates too much. He is the goal kicker of the team. Williams is a good sound player and uses his head. Certain rep. Sheen is out'of condition, but showed a little of his old form. He requires more training. McKenzie hangs on toi the ball far too much and has spoilt one or two good chances of scoring; otherwise a good man. Should be tried wing three quarter. J. Ropata is «otut of his place at wing three-quarter; would Be better in the pack with his weight. Ransfield is a fine player at wingthree quarter and scored a fine try for Shannon on Saturday week. ( Should have the ball passed to him rnor->. Lenihan is showing fine form for so early in the season. No rivals in sight for rep. honours. Marsh was the best forward on the ground,' well trained, and can may back also. Would make a good threequarter. Tohanson showed good form for the first match of the season, is a solid worker and his weight is an asset. Fitzgerald, a last year's junior, is a good solid boy, trains well, in the forwards, seems' out of place hooking; reliable man to depend on. Moynihan is playing his usual good game; has a knack of scoring. L. Dalzell shows good control of the ball at his foot and follows up well. Should push irmre in the scrum. With anther stone weight would get near the reps. Tohi has played two very good games this sea'son, is very consistent, always trains and always trav'els. Caldwell is a new player. He has been prominent to matches played so far, uses his feet well and should be heard of again. Mathews did not play on Saturday week owing to an accident. Plays wing forward and is the best man seen here in that position for some Sturgeon played in the opening game, not very well up to the finer points of the game, but a'solid grafter and goes a.fl the time. The Shannon selectors have some fine players to pick from and if the above men are kept together should be in a good position at the end 01 the season.
