. Shannon seniors met Foxton on the Recreation Grounds on Saturday and for the second time secured a decisive victory. FOxton’s team appeared to he heavier 'than that of*last season. Shannon’s team with the exception of Fulwell and Johansen was tne same as. that which met Hui Mai the previous Saturday. The men mentioned took (he places of Sturgeon and Matthews, the latter having sprained his angle. The game.-thqugn lacking brilliancy, was a very hard fought one and the’ pace, practically throughout, was fast. Shannon’s forwards in the loose excelling the opposing forwards while the honours of the back divisions were equally divided. Foxton made their only score m the first half while Shannon secured tlieir tally in the second half. Foxton playing against the sun opened the game by attacking, and in setting out to force matters went dangerously close to scoring early m the game owing tq Lenihan kicking the ball over his head resulting in Foxton forwards sweeping down onj to the leather, when it was 15 yards from Shannon’s line a scrum being! ordered saving the situation. Shortly after from another scrum Caldwell broke away with' the ball at his toe carrying play to centre tlie Shannonites gradually working the leather to the 25 where they were awarded a free kick. Ropata’ had a shot at goal but failed. Foxton now made several bids to register the hirst score and) dually from a hue passing bout onj the part of their backs, Fuller scored I at the corner; the full back (H. Soon after the start of the second spell from a dribbling rush near Foxton’s line Dalzell evened matters by scoring. This was followed up by Ransheld snapping up the ball and sending it on to. Williams-who after beating several men, passed it back to Ransheld, who raced across the line and scored. Hunt taking the kick and landing it safely between the bars. On the bail going into play Shannon again had' Foxton on tlie defensive; the outcome of which a free kick was awarded Shannon. Hunt was entrusted with' the kick, but was not successful, A little later Sheehan getting possession, cut in and passed to Lenihan who sent it on to Williams who scored near the corner flag. Hunt' had the shot at goal, mission by a narrow margin. Shannon still kept up the pressure, finally being forced. Just before call of time Shannon were awarded a free kick in Foxton’s 25 for deliberate off-side, which Hunt converted. The game pririirur Shannon 14. Foxton 3. In the forwards me most prominent were Morgan, tiendricksen and Satherley, while m tiie backs Terry, Robbia and CoyJe were conspicuous. Feni was a tower’ of strength to Miranui.
