MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
To-morrow the municipal elections will take place. There are two candiuates for Ithe Mayoralty and fifteen candidates for the eight seats on the Borough Council. ■Polling will commence at 9 a.m., closing at 7 p.m., the polling place-'being Vie Council Chambers. Voters who are able are asked not to leave voting until late, thus avoiding a rush at the closing hour., it is. anticipated there will be heavy polling. \mong the candidates who arc seeking a. seat on the Borough Council is Mr J. H. Roberts. He is practically a new arrival in New Zealand, having only been a resident for 18 montns, and therefore is not as well known to the electors as most of the candidates, but nevertheless lie is a man who has had wide experience in public life in the Olu country, having been a member oi the Lancashire County Council, the ivewton-le- willows Urban Council (which has a population of 19,750), on which body he was chairman oi tne Housing and Health Committee. He was also a member of the Lancashire Higher Education Board, Elementary HducaUQn Committee, Advisory Committee during the \yai, Lancashire War Pensions Committee and was president of the Lancashire Discharged Soldiers' Association for twq years. Electors will have the opportunity of hearing ins vieus on local."matters at the Maoril.and liieatre this evening. The returning officer-, Mr J. 1. Ro\is expects to be able to announce the result of the Mayoral election at <.3U on Wednesday evening. Election oi eight councillors will be known aibout S p. 111!.
