HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
monthly meeting. Tfie monthly meeting of the Horownenua Power Guard was held in the Borough Chambers on Tuesday, me chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) presiding. Also present; Messrs Brown, Ross, Barber, Kilsby, Mackay, Seilort, Gunning, and Aiutbeson. CORRESPONDENCE. The Principal of the Boys’ Training College, Otaki, wrote asking for special consideration in regard to charges * for lighting, pouiFng out that the College was giving education practically tree, and that nuance was a continual source of anxiety. Anything mat could he done would be appreciated. The chairman said that he did rot see how exceptions could be made unless the Board was going io revise file whole charges. It was iec-ded that nothing could he done. CARETAKER FUR FOXTON SUBSTATION. The Foxton Borough wrote further regarding the employment of their gasworks manager (Mr Downes) in the dual capacity Qf' power Board representative in Foxton and gasworks manager, and enclosing terms which they considered should be satisfactory to both parties. Referred to Mr Barber and the Engineer, to deal with. APPLICATION FOR REDUCED RATE The Otaki Theatre, Ltd., asked for a reduction in the rate, charged lor their rectifier, which they considered should come under the general power ra.te, as it was doing the work of a motor generating set, for which power rate is allowed. Mr Kilsby bore out the statement contained in me letter, and supported the application. The secretary said that to give the reduction in this case, would be to iiave similar applications from every other township. The Engineer said that me only tiling that could be done if the picture proprietors were not satisfied, was tq put in a motor, which would be found more expensive than the present system. Tills took only about one unit per hour to operate, and lie did not think that Bcl per hour was prohibitive for the running of a picture show. No action was taken. LIGHTING BOWLING GREEN. The Foxton Bowling Club wrote asking for quotations for the lighting of two rinks at their green for night Play- . . , Mr Gunning advocated giving bowling clubs a rate similar to that of sea-side cottages, where a flat rate was allowed. Otherwise the charge would be found prohibitive as bowling wa§ played only for a few months each year. Mr Seifert said that if the concession were given they would have applications from the tennis clubs next. The matter was referred to the- Engineer for attention, the chairman stating that he thought when the matter was gone into it- would be found that the ordinary charge per unit, would be the better. ACCOUNTS FOR PAYMENT. Accounts totalling £6646 Is 9d were passed for payment, this including payment for .electricity for the quarter tq Public Works Department, £IOB7 16s, transformers £lll2 Os 2d, meters £lOsl 15s 3d, Post and Telegraph Department (alteration to lines) £384 145,. motors £516 15s, poles £9OO, etc. BALANCE SHEETS AT NEXT MEETING. The treasurer (Mr P. W. Goldsmith) reported that the audit inspector had completed the audit of the accounts for the two years ended 31st March; 1923 and 1924, respectively. “The balance sheets for these particular years have now come to hand and (with the exception of one item of expenditure which is being taken up with the Department), are in order and can be printed. Thes.e balance sheets, while Qf considerable Interest, do not disclose the present position ,of the Board. It was hoped that the Balance Sheet for the year just ended would have been ready for the present meeting. With a view to bringing this about, the office staff has worked all through the holidays and many evenings. This time, however, has not been sufficient to make tile work complete, and although things are well under way, I have deemed it advisable not to present an incomplete return, but as soon as ready members of the Board will be furnished with copies for perusal. At the next meeting qf tile Board, which ig the annual meeting, there will therefore be presented: (1) Balance sheet for year ended March 31, 1925, as prepared fur audit; (2) position of advances to consumers’ accounts; (3) estimates for ensuing year’; (4) general report on tlie work of the Board.
Receipts during tlie month totalled: Sales of electricity, etc,, £1320. Repayment of installation costs and deposits, £lOl7.
> GENERAjL. Mr Barber inquired when tlie side lines between Foxton and Shannon would he proceeded with. There was some anxiety on the part of would-be consumers to have a definite timelimit set, so that they might know where they stood. Tlie Engineer said that he hoped to proceed with this work in about three months.
