COUNTRY CLUBS' CHAMPIONSHIP.

MARRED BX WINXRY CONDITIONS

RESULTS (JFI MEEIL\G IN; LEVIN. The country Clubs' Chainpiionship meeting w.as held at Levin Park Domain on Easter Saturday, when what woiuj.di otherwise have been a first-class meeting, was married hy persistent heavy showers throughout the afternoon, only the perfection of the. arrangements made for the running oi the meeting, prevented a break-down, hut it says much for the organisation, that even under the circumstances the events were got off without a single hitch, and the time-table kept to the minute. The attendance was fairly good, and but for the inclemency of the weather, at is safe to say that the meeting would have been a record one. The raiiLodden track wa§ dead and no' outstanding times were recorded. The outsanding features of the day were the performances of Rose, the Ma.sterton crack long-distance runner, and hold of the N.Z. and Australian three-mile record, and T. Oakley, also of Masterton, in the cycle events. Rose demonstrated beyond question hi's superiority in the long-distance events, winning both the One Mile and Three Mile distances without having been pushed. In both, Dufresne was at all times a serious competitor, but never looked like winning, Rose merely lengthening. out his long easy stride when challenged, and winning with apparently plenty in hand. Oakley proved himself equally outstanding in the cycle events, winning the One, Two and Three Mile Cham-

pionships, and the Half-Mile Handicap, and being only prevented from winning the Ftive-Mile Handicap, by gating a puncture \yhen he had the race in hand. The final of the 100yds Championship

provided a very fine race between Eastwood (Masterton) and Strange (Manawatu) bein;j won by a touch, in the very satisfactory time, considerling the state of tiie track, of 10 2-ssecs. In trie ladies' events, Miss L. Henderson won the I.2oyds handicap from syds, and obtained second place in the Club Champions'tip, being beaten by a couple of feet by Miss Gill. Miss

Henderson's best race, however, was nn the Ladies' Relay, where she gained 15yds on her opponent, a lead which the following runners were able to hold.
