In the second innings., Horowheua made fior 6 wickets. The showing of tiie local team was on the whole very creditable, and there is no doubt that the better class oi match played tins season has nad a hardening effect. looked like putting up a big score. Sloan and S. SimoOx opened for Horowhenua to the bowling oi O'Connor and Aldersley. A trial ball sent down before the opening of the innings stumped Sloan clean, but this had the necessary steadying effect and thereafter he batted in x confident style, giving a bright display for ,34. Simcox went for a duck; and Young took his place, making a useful 12, including two fours, before being bowled by Symonds. The next six batsmen went cheap, but Conder coming in then made a welcome last moment stanu, scoring 26 by steady, consistent play. Aitken and Adams opened for Hutt, Sloan and Field bowling. Aitken, who put on the best score of the day, gave
no chances and made. 62 by persistent batting. Anything that came his way got what it deserved. With Adams and Pringle, an old Levin player, 'the score was brought up to 111 for tiiree wickets. Whitwell 22, and Aldersley and O'Connor each with double figures, made up: the greater part Of tiie remaining score.
