A. AND P. ASSOCIATION’S EFFORT.
LIABILITY REDUCED BY £2OO. The big effort inaugurated iby the Horowhenua A. and P. Association for the reduction of the liability incurred largely' as. the result of the abandonment of ihe fShow fixture, in deference to the health restrictions, culminated yesterday in a Shop Day and the sale ;otf the stock collected during the progress of the “stock drive.”
A very liberal response had been made by the public both in the matter of donating stock and produce, and by cash donations, with the result that a very handsome sum was derived from yestei day’s operations, pile sale of stock realising £74 13s Bd, the Shop Day £42 13s Id, cash donations £4l 9s, and donations of entry fees £9 15s 6d. To this must be added a sum of £3B, .subscriptions collected since the beginning of ihe effort, and making a total qf £206 11s 3d. The position oi tlie Association, as disclosed at the general meeting held on February ’2B, was that a debit balance qf £2BO was shown. Of, this £IOB was loss on the year’s working owing to the abandonment of the •Show, and £172 represented overdraft at tiie Bank. Subscriptions outstanding at that time amounted to £162 19s, and the only unsatisfactory feature of the returns, is the small amount of these collected. The amount of subscriptions outstanding is £l2 i 19s, and with the. Rabidity of the Association reduced to £73 8s 9d, it is obvious that a small extra effort would succeed in wiping out the debit altogether. The Shop Day was under tlie capable management of (Mrs R- Evans, assisted by Mesdam.es W. Ryder, J. W. Procter, R. Ryder, F. Best, Miss Broadbelt, and Mr J. W. Procter. A number of competitions were conducted and result .id as follow:—No. ' 1 d nner: Mrs R. V. Brown; No. 2 dinner: Miss Gonv/ay; No. 3 dinner: Mrs A. S. Death (Ohau); bridle: Mr G. C. Tully; trousers: Mr R. Healy (Ohau); set carvers: Mis S. Bowker (Ihakara); pair boots: Mr Hector McLean; drake: , Mr F. Hart (Koputaroa). The Association desire to express their thanks to all those who assisted by the donation of goods and stock, donations of cosh or entry fees, and ail thos_e, both workers and public who assisted in making the shop-day such a conspicuous success.
