Mrs W. R. Surndge left fast week hy tne s.s. Marama on a visit to Sydney.
During the vveek-end tlie old Temporary cower House smoke stack was successfully dismantled, thus causing the power in the Horowhenua County to be cut off for a few hours. 'Mr h. Maniiire, who was employed on the construction staff at the Power Station, has been appointed to a position at the P.W.D. Sub-station, Penrose. in r H. R. Harle, Assistant-Engineer at the Bunnythorpe Sub-station, left on a visit toi Tasmania last week. A surprise party eventuated at a residence on the Hill last week, the programme \yas of musical items and competitions, resulting in a successful evening. > Guy Fawkes night was not in it as compared to the bracken fern blaze that, swept tbe surrounding hills on Tuesday evening. The wind blowing in tlie opposite direction, tlie Power Station was not in any danger. Tennis here Ipis not been supported as it really deserves, and it has been suggested that some outside Club send a team out to foster the game along. Mr E. Taylor, of Arapuni, was a visitor to the Works this week.
