COUNCIL RECEIVE A BOMBSHELL, NOT SUFFICIENT FUNDS. SEVERAL STREETS NOT INCLUDED.

At Tuesday's meeting of the. Borough Council the Town Clerk submitted a statement of the .Borough finances, which showed an unsatisfactory state of affairs in respect to the water scheme account. The statement showed the liabilities to complete the scheme, assuming the estimate to he correct, to he £2645 Is 3d, whereas there was tfnly the sum of £IBBO remaining to do the work. Against this was revenue that would come in for connections and the sale of pipes. Mr Murray said the charge for con. nections should not he included in the fund as they were a direct charge against the ratepayers. The Mayor stated they were added to the scheme after the scheme (had been started. Cr Gunning said the charge for connections had been included owing to the installation of rider pipes for connecting the houses up with, instead of connecting from the main. .The Engineer (Mr Edwards) replying to a question as to what was required for the connections, said there was 45 feet of piping, totoy box, tap ,and and to enable them to put in the rider pipes tihey had to get the sum of £550. ■ Cr Murray( to the Towjn Clerk): How much money have we got to spend now and what are tihe liabilities to date?. . .
