NORTH PLAYS SOUTH.
The North v. South representative match playea on the Levin Domain on Saturday, resulted in a. draw, neither side finishing their innings. North -With five wickets down—declared for 159 and iSouith had lost sis; wickets When time was called and had not. •cached their opponents' total. The attendance at the game wa»s lair and the keen interest taken in the game was an indication of the growing hold cricket is oibtaining locally. Hunt, and Bennett'opened the batting for the Northerners, Bennett being bowled toy lima with a ball slightly from the off, when the score stood at 9. Bentley joined Hunt and got to work in a style which promised results, a promise which was amply Justified. Hitting on the powerful side fourteen of (hits shots were boundaries for four, one, exceedingly fine stroke lifting the ball right out of the ground for six. ,■ Wi'th the score at 104, Bentley retired with 63 to his credit. Sloan lollowed, hut did not .last long, Demg fcowled 'by Caterer for 8. Mackenzie -and Hunt carried the score to the 130 mark, when Hunt was well caught by Pairata off Caterer. Sharp added only one to the score, heing unlucky in falling to. Parata's fielding. Parana received an ovation if or holding a very difflouUt catch, Hemmingsen went out toir 1,3 and Gender's score stood at z when Bennett, the Northern captain, declared the innings closed, with three wickets in. hand. Mackenzie batted very steadily for his 20 not out. Fletcher and Caterer oipened for Soo'litih,' to the howling of .Sloan and Field. Sloan's bowling was very erratic, and Field making the mistake of bowling the same hall too olten, the runs came fairly easily. Caterer was the first to go, Tahiwi filling his place and with Fletcher, finding no difficulty With the howling, which had now foeen changed to Bennett and Bull., Fletcher retired' for 30, receiving wellmerited applause for a fine innings as he left the field. Weggery followed but did not last long and S. Suncox joined Tahiwi. Simcox batted with fine confidence and contributed a useful 30 before falling to Phillips* bowling, axis Place being taken by Parata. Flutey's 21 added practically the whole of the remaining figures.
