VANCE STREET FOOTPATH.
(T$ the Editor). Sir.— l wish to draw attention tp the condition of the newly formed lootpath in Vance Street, which, in my opinion, te a disgrace to our ci« fathers." The. footpath was huivily metalled and left, with the result that to-day it is overgrown with weeds and in appearance the street is a bigger eyesore than previously. I understand one councillor when approached about it stated tne people never made use of it The reason for this is. the rough state it was left in, which made it hard to walk on, residents preferring to walk on the road. In my opinion it has been a waste of the ratepayers' money. If the job was worth doing, why nqt do it properly? The footpath sltiould n a ve been asphalted x and keifoed straight away Of course the Council no doubt will say they did not have the money to do this. Well, U that is the reason, the work should have heen left until Hhey money to do it properly. Now, if „the Council intend to asphalt it and give it a finish, it will mean extra cost to pick it over and clear the rubbish that is fast making its appearance. No wonder the Borough lias no money when it is wasted in this fashion, and as I learn it has been moved by a councillor to. raise a loan for improving our streets and footpaths, wthich is needed to make our town attractive, it is to be hoped the Council will immediately remedy this complaint so that their error will not prejudice such a loan being "carried.—-I amr etc., RATEPAYER;
