ASSISTANT COUNTY ENGINEER APPOINTED.

FORTY-FOUR (APPLICANTS. The position of Assistant County Engineer, for which it was decideu at the. December meeting of the Horowlienua County Council, to call applications, has now been filled, Mr C. r. Callander, -of Palmerston Norm., securing the position from 44 applicants. Mr Callander, who is 24 years of age, is a licensed surveyor, ,and has already done work for the County in making the surveys for the roads m the sub-division of Messrs. Akers and Gibbon’s property at Rangitane, which are being constructed under County supervision. He commences duty on February 2nd, and will probably start immediately with the survey and estimating of the work in connection with the Mam Highways which was the main reason for his appointment.
