CAR ENGINE NUMBERS.

HOW TO FIND THEM. A great many inquiries are being made as to where to find the chassis and engine numbers, which are required iqf regisnation of cars under the Motor Vehicles Act. On a number of modern cars there is only one number, the car number, and Where this is the case the same number will have tp be fiiied in under the headings Qf chassis number and engine number. In order to assist motorists, when are not too sure where the numbers are on their cars, the following will give an indication as tQ where they Will be found on a number of the makes of cars in use around Levin; —

AUSTIN—Car numJoer only. On dash facing driver. BUIGK—I92I and latter, two numbers. On right-hand side of dash under

bonnet BUIGK—Prior tQ W2J. Chassis number qa left rear dumb-iron. Engine number on front left Qf en-

gine block. CHEVROLET—On frame under the driver’s seat. CHRYSLER—Engine number on timing case. Chassis, number on left

rear dumb-iron. DODGE—Car number on, plate on footboard below dash. Engine number on left side of cylinder block. ESSEX—Numbers on dash under bonnet. '

FORD—On left front of engine block on raised plate. Engine number

only. GRAY—On left side of cylinder block, about No. 3 cylinder. No chassis

number. MAXWELL—Two numbers. Engine number on timing case. Car number on plate on dash under bonnet OVERLAND—Chassis number on left under front seat. Also on left of differential crown wheel, and also ■on frame, at rear of front left wheel. Engine number on lug behind’ oil filler on left of engine.
