HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The. monthly meeting of the Horo.whenuia Power Board was held in the Borough Chambers on Tuesday, the chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) presiding. Also present; Messrs. Brown, Ross, KilSby, Mackay, Seifert, Matheson and Barber. Leave of absence was. granted to Mr Gunning. CORRESPONDENCE. From the OPoxton Harbour Board asking that three street lamps be erected at Manawatu Heads seaside township. The.y pointed out that these lamps would only be used for six months per year, and asked lor a special quotation in consideration of tnis fact. • '
The Manawatui County Council wrote that they were willing to bear the cost of one. street light at the entrance tq the Manawatu Beach township. " illvJ The Engineer stated that the lights asked for had been supplied, the rate being £3 17s 6d per year for 100 watt lamps. The chairman said that the question
involved in 4he Harbour Board's letter was whether a special rate could be given. Personally he did .not see that this could be. done, taking into consideration the fact of the small "number of lights and also that the price charged was really very low. it was decided Jo reply to this effect. INSTALMENT Off LOAN RECEIVED. The Government Life Insurance. Co. wrote under' date of December 18th to the effect that £IO,OOO, the flrs.t instalment of the Board's loan of £40,000, had that day been paid into the Bank of New Zeaand to the Board's account. They pointed out that it was thought that in lieu of arranging for the monthly payment Of interest (raits deduction from the monthly progress payments) it might he more convenient to deduct that interest in two amounts from the fifth and tenth payments |,o be made in June and November next respectively.—Agreed. Messrs ' TreadweU and Sons, solicitors, Wellington, forwarded the Power Boards copy of the debenture in connection with the £40,000 a'Oain.—Received.
ACCOUNTS FOR PAYMENT
Accounts totalling £2-125 ss, were passed for payment, REPORT OF FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee, reported as follows: The Committee met on the evening of the 19th inst, and desire to place before the Board the following matters pertaining to the work'of the v Board, Viz;— . v (i) Accounts for confirmation for we meeting amount to £4192 15s 4d. The chief items in this expenditure are for motor and'Wiring group contracts, £2370, wages- and salaries, £B3B, electricity for December, £l5O, and copper wire' (light draft) £649. the accounts to be passed amount to £2125 ss, the principal payments, being for meters, insulators, wire, switches, Moffat ranges and a Chevrolet car. (2) Tendejrs (for the Paiiaparaumu wiring group (No. 20) were gone into by the Committee. Seven tenders were received, the prices heing close. The difficulty was to select and recommend a tender for acceptance, the work for which could be put in hand at once and completed at an early date. H was decided to interview two of the tenderers to see what could be done in this respect, and to report, to the Board during the sitting. (3) The Committee recommend that the secretary'take steps to secure the services of a suitable experienced meter-reader, and •collector, at a salary of £5 per week, the Board to find
suitable, transport. (4) The Engineer reported to tne Committee concerning his appointment to the Franklin Power Board. The chairman will place before members the position as it affects the
Board. . t In connection with, the appointment, of a meter-reader and collector, the chairman stated that the matter had been carefully gone into and it was thought that the services of a suitable man who was favourably Known to the Engineer, oould foe obtained. At present the work was being done by the office staff, but this had necessitated the., neglect of their usual work Now tharthe scheme was opening out there would be sufficient work in thi& connection to keep a man employed full time, and they accordingly recommended that one be appointed. GOE^SEBAiL,. Mr Barber asked what was the mode of .procedure if anybojly at the Foxtun Heads Beach required to be joined up with the existing group. The Engineer stated that all that would be necessary would be to approach the Board makings application to be connected up. As soon as permission was granted, the householder mi°flit make arrangements, with any contractor to have the wiring done.
