GENERAL. llhe Road Committee is to be. instructed to make arrangements to take over the carpenter’s shed at Mangaotre, which the Council have purchased. The action of an informal meeting of. the Council in making new. appointments for the position of nightsoil contractor and ranger were approved of by the full Council.

Complaints, were received in respect to the delay in connecting up with the water supply, and the Council decided to take, drastic action to have the scheme completed at an early date. Cr. Hyde drew attention to the fact that under -the Registration of Motor Vehicles. Bill local bodies collect the driver’s fee. of ss. He said there were a good many motorists around Shannon and ihe was of opinion a good source of revenue could be derived and he urged the Council to move in the matter.—'lt was. decided to notify drivers of motor vehicles that the Council are. issuing drivers’ licenses. It was. decided that the* Town- Clerk fix a day fori removal-of rubbish within the Borough and that all tins, and oil drums to be carted away must be flattened out to prevent beng blown about at the tip. Mr S. Finlay was appointed dog tax collector for the ensuing year.

Cr. Hyde, in referring to the. plots in Plimmer Terrace, asked whether it was the intention Of the Counoil to allow the grass to go'to hay or whether they were going to be kept trimmed. He said the. Council should have purchased a mowing machine, instead of a lawn mower.—lt was decided to instruct the roadman to. attend to the plots regularly and keep the heige trimmed.

The Town Clerk stated he had received that the “Silent Policeman” at Aldersey’s. corner was placed too far out for coming down Ballance Street, making it difficult fo.r. them to got around.—The Mayor informed the mooting She had given instructions, that it. should be brought closer in. Permission was grantod the Domain Committee to construct a paddling pool, 60 X 30, in the Domain. It was decided to accept the offer of £75 from Mr R. Laurvig for the purchase of section 4 in Vance, street.This was the only offer received for the section.

ROADMAN’S REPORT. The Borough roadman (Mr F. Haley) reported as follows; —W e (have carted m yards Of metal on to the following streets: Vogel, Ballance and Stafford Plimmer Terrace a)nd Levin road. The grass has been- cleaned off footpath, in Ballance Street. We have also levelled clay over pipe lme in Plimmer Terrace and Ballance -Street, and put in one day in Recreation ground carting earth for filling in the drains. The Council then went into committee to deal with matters in connection with the water supply scheme, etc.,

but after a lengthy discussion no decision was arrived at for publication. The accounts were then passed for payment. ~ .
