ENTERS LABOUR FOLD

LONDON, Dec. 18. Augustus John, the famous artist, has joined the Labour Party. At present he is painting a portrait of Mr Ramsay MacDonald. Mr Augustus John is an artist oi extraordinary personal eccentricities by which he advertises his considerable skill. Hef wears a large beard and his hair down to his coat-collar like a Christian Israelite, and moves about attended by a crowd of admiring disciples mostly female. He is a fine draughtsman, and charges fine prices for his work, which all the artists of Chelsea admire and none of the critics are courageous enough to criticise for its many absurdities and eccentricities. At his best he is a fine, painter, at his wqrst he, sells his failures for large sums. He is one of the picturesque figures ot artistic London, and his next move will he watched wMih interest and amuse.me.nt.
