House-owners are warned that now is the time to combat Urn invasion of the borer (says an Auckland writer). He explained that at this time, of tire year the female borer takes to herself wings, and flies about looking lor fresh timber in nice new houses, to bore into and lay eggs, ahd bring out grubs to feed therein. Now is the time; lie declares, to look carefully about, examine the timbers, and if any sign of the borer is found, apply a remedy. Creosote is recommended as an effective. agency to destroy the borer before it has. got deep into the wood. Borers take a very long lime to eat a house away—indeed, their appetite is by no means large—but people do not like their company, and any house showing signs of the pest is regarded as a depreciating asset.
