ALSO TO BE SPEEDED UP.
AUCKLAND, Last Night.
Sonic indication of the timetable for the limited express service between Wellington and Auckland can.now be .given, although the arrangements have not been iinalised. It is expected, the limited will leave Auckland at 7.10 p.m., ar-' v riving at Wellington at 9.35 a,m, the next day. A coixesponding timetable will be observed from Wellington to Auckland. The limited will thus take 3£ hours less than tne present express and will stop only at Frank, ton., Taumaiiiniii, Ohakune, Tailiap, Marton and Palmerston North. Hi is timetab c will be put in operation next month, although the date has yet to be fixed.
The gap of intermediate stations at present served by the Main Trunk express, it is proposed to fill by starting the express from Auckland at 7.55 a.m., reaching Wellington about 16 hours later, two hours better than the present express. Probably a similar express will rim daily from Wellington, and this will give a daylight trip through the scenic portion of the ron,te. Willie emphasising the fact that this timetable has not yet been approved, the Hon. J. G. Coates discussed many of the advantages offered by the limited service. The chief was the saving of time. It was not only a matter of 3J hours saved on the journey, but the travelling would "be done at night, out of business hours, which, with the proposed provision of more and better sleepers, would be spent in sleep. On arriving in either centre in the morning, the business man would have
the whole day and be able to get away in the evening for Auckland or Wellington. Mr Ooales believed the timetable
would- earii recognition; in better passenger patronage. The limited would also give a good connections all olong the route on the southward run with the New Plymouth and Napier expresses, and on. the northward run with the
Thames and Rotorua lines. The gain in the latter case was especially important. At present, passengers from the south were
landed at Vrankton at 3.35 a.m. and had to wait until after midday before going on Avith their journey. The limited would land them at Frankton at about 7.30, a-in.,. after a night's sleep.
