SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Shannon School Committee held their monthly meeting at the school last evening. 'Present—Messrs it. L. Tippler (chairman), Downes, Watkins, Gusto.fsen, Warrington, Anderson, Brown, .Christian and .Carlyle (secretary). SCHOOL RESIDENCE. Front the, Wellington Education Board re renovating the school-mas-ter’s residence.—The secretary was instructed to write the Board pointing out that the residence was not suitable and that the committee recommend a new modern building. It was also a recommendation to the Board that half the present area of ground ground the residence be included in the playing area. ELECTRIC LIGHT. From, the Power Board re installation of electric light, etc., at the school.—After some discussion it was decided that the Committee set up to deal with the matter bring down a report as to whether light or only heaters be installed. HIGH SCHOOL. The secretajry, Wellington Education Board,. acknowledged list of names of those children who would attend a District High School if one was established, in .Shannon and stating that the facts would receive careful consideration, but under section (1) Education Act, the proposal if approved by the -Board must also be approved of by the Council of Education before the Minister sanctions its establishment. It is unlikely therefore that the matter can be dealt with in time to serve the committee’s desire of starting at the beginning of the year. Also wishing to know what proposal will be made regarding accommodation if the Board should finally approve. The chairman intimated that the list contained 33 names. Mr Morgan, the, acting head-mas-ter informed the meeting that The standard of efficiency of the staff of a District High School was just as efficient as other High Schools. Mr Watkins moved and Mr Gustofsen seconded that the secretary write the member for the district, Mr j. Linklater, M.P:., urging his assistance in pushing the matter along. CHILDREN'S BALL.
A report was received from the secretary of the recent ball committee, also balance sheet which showed that the gross takings were £32 Qs 2d, there being a nett balance of £22 17s 6d.—lt • was decided on behalf of the committee and staff to thank, through the press, all those ladies, who had assisted in making the. function such a success. TENNIS COURTS. . It Was resolved that the layingdown of tennis courts be proceeded with right away and that tenders be called for the work, these to be dealt with by the chairman and secretary. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting'.
