Mr Gunning said 'he - had already brqught the maftter before the Mayor, who had been in communication with the Horowhenua County Council and it had been suggested that a temporary swing bridge be erected to convey pedestrians and cream across the river.

It was pointed out that the matter was urgent, and it was resolved that the Horowhenua County Council bo written to 9 asking that the bridge be restored as early as possible. Also that the Levin and Foxton Chambers of Commerce'and the Manawatu County Council he asked to co-oper-ate With a view to having the bridge restored without delay. The missing span has. been secured some distance above the Wirokino bridge. A man working by the river hank saw the span coming down stream and rowing out in a boat, secured it and towed it to shore, anchoring it in a safe position. , It was vieiry fortunate that this was done* as had the span piled up against the Wirokiho Bridge, there would have been danger of that structure also suffering.
