RESIGNING PRIMACY AND BISHOPRIC QR (CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. In his address to the Diocesan Synod to-night, Archbishop Julius who was consecrated Bishop of Christchurch in 1890, said: "Perhaps the resignation of office when the infirmities of old age become manifest, and before they begin to affect the life and well-being of the Church, is not the least of the services we can render to our; Master. With this strong conviction, and with the growing fear of injury to my people, I have this day Informed the Senior Bishop of the Province of my intention to resign the Primacy on the last day of the General Synod ; in February next and my office as bishop of Christchurch on* 20th April. 'This will allow me to preside once more at a session of the General Synod without delaying th,e appointment of my successor in the Primacy for another three years, and will also give me the privilege and. joy of serving as your Bishop until after Easter. You will understand in taking this step I feel more than I am .able or willing to express. It is better to be silent. I am now seventy-seven years of age, and by the date of consecration I am almost the oldest bishop in the Anglican. give place to a younger man.’’
