THE DANCING BEARS.
MENAGERIE BREAKS liOOSE. (Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) ROME, Oct. 18. A telegram from Turin says a locomotive shunting at Galsuo collided with a van containing a travelling managerie. A lion, three bears and a hyena escaped. The lion was injured and easily .captured. The bears trotted into tlie market place, the populace fleeing; The animals rose on their hind legs a"nd began to dance until the keeper arrived. The hyena was captured in a tunnel after several hours' hunting.
The above cablegram is rather interesting following on a message from Hobart on October 15th:—"The escape of a large elephant from a circus during a 'storm,, which almost drove the animals frantic with fear, is causing consternation here. Several keepers and many pedestrians and motorists joined in the chase after the infuriated animal, without effecting a captur«. People are terrified and fears are entertained that the animal may do damage."
