THE ROYAL SHOW.

The first &hQw in New Zealand under the • auspices of the Royal Agricultural Society will be held at. Palhierston North in conjunction .with, the Manajwatu and. West Coast A. and P. Association, on November 4, 5, and 6, and should prove a most lht'eresDiiig nxture, as in the Royal classes it is a proviso that only ani-' iuals winch have figured in the prize list at other New Zealand shows Can compete. Tin is will ensure a meeting oi champions, and therefore the quality must be of the very best. A number of - very valuable cups have been presented the various breeuei's' both m New Zealand and in the Old Country, and the prize rist right through is a very valuable one, and it is now certain' that it, will draw, excellent competition, and that the exhibition of stock w... be well worth a visit and should be of considerable educative value to breeders generally. Entries have come to hand practically from Auckland to the Bluff, and it is. the first time for many years that there has ! beeii an opportunity oi comparing I. the stock from both islands. Had it not been for the embargo, which prevents Australian stock irom landing in New. Zealand at the present time there is no doubt that some very good exhibits would have come from ■there.. New Zealand stock which has been exhibited at the Royal Sydney Show has more than held its own in the prize list, and it would have been most interesting to have had representatives from that quarter at this show. Although entries have not yet finally closed, there are already indications that they will form a record for the Manawatu Show. Up to the present the entries received Include 280 horses of all classes, 536 cattle, 636 sheep, arid'l2s pigs, whilst there are 235 contestants in the ring events, which will be quite a feature of the show.. The whole available accommodation in Palmerston North has already been secured, and arrangements are being made by the secretary of the Association to secure further facilities in the immediate neighbourhood.
