BOWLING.

The official opening of-the Shannon Bowling Green will be held next Wednesday afternoon,-'October Vat 2 p.m. Invitations, have been sent-"to Otaki, Levin, Foxton, and Palmerston North Club's. The green keeper has been busy during the last two" weeks, and with good weather next week tihe green will be in first-clas s condition. The hedges have been trimmed, gates repaired and alterations to croquet pavilion made. On Wednesday workers were, busy painting seats, discs, pegs, and cleaning scoring boards. The weather hindered progress but it is hoped that Saturday players will be able to finish the work to-morrow. .Nine new members have joined the cluib and a good bowling season is anticipated.' The Croquet Club has decided to open on the same day. They are inviting ladies from other clubs and a. big day is expected.
