MONTHLY; MEETING. Ihe monthly meeting oi the Horowueuua, Power Board, was held id the oorougn ChauiDers ' oil - Tuesday, tne cnahman, Mr G. a. Monk, presiding. Also present: Messrs Brown, koss, Barber, Mackay, Gunning and Sehert. i INFOKMATIONi wanted. r lhe Ashburton Dairy Company, Ltd,, wrote stating that their suppliers were considering hnking up with the electric power supply in that district anu asking ipr iniormation. as. to the terms, etc., given .to farmers by, the Horowhenua Power .Board. —Reierred to me secretary to reply to. The Railway Department IQrwarded the deeds in connection with Die permission given to the Board‘to carry electric power lines oyer railway lines within the district. AGREEMENT FOR SUPPLY OF POWER.
From the Public Works Department, enquiring when the memorandum ol agreement between the Board and the Department would be completed. In reply to the Board’s objection to the discontinuance of the 5 per cent, discount on hulk power, which had been allowed to 1 some Boards!, the Department stated that the prices as stated in the agreement were those charged to all Boards under the amended schedule, and that owing to the necessity of making the Mangahao scheme pay in its mtiul stages, no discount could he allowed. The chairman stated that this mat [ ter had been referred to the Finance' Committee with the result that the | present attitude had been taken up by the Board. The matter for consideration now was, in view of the fact that some of the other Boards had sighed up, whether the Horowhenua Board should oppose file agreement, and if so, on what grounds. Following a discussion in committee, Mr A. Seifert proposed and Mr Gunning seconded, that the agreement be signed by Messrs Ross and Barber, on behalf of the Board. This was carried. OPENING CEREMONY AT MANGAHAO
The Shannon Borough Council advised that at a conference of local bodies held at Shannon regarding n
fitting oelehratipn csf the tuming-on of power from (he Works, i« had been agreed that such a celebration be held, the cost of same to be defrayed by.the bodies interested wrtn the aid of a subsidy from the Government. The Horowhenua Power Board’s .contribution had been tentatively fixed at £5. Tiie chairman explained that the Board’s secretary, Mr Goldsmith, hru represented the Board at the conference, The difficulty was that ine Board was only allowed 1 per cent, of revenue, for unauthorised expenditure. The estimated revenue for the year was only £IOOO, and one per cent, oj this was £.lO. The feeling mrougu the district, however, was that some fitting ceremony should be held to celebrate the turning-on of pqwer, anu it looked as if the Board should contribute. On the motion of Mr Seifert, seconded by Mr Mackay; it was decided to donate the sum of £5 towards the celebration. CONSIGNMENT OF POLES. Messrs Samuel Brown, Ltd., wrote that in their agreement with the Board for the supply of poles, they had agreed tq attend to file receiving and consigning qf same at the rate of £lO .1% per shipment with a minimum of 150 poles. They had agreed to attend to poles received through the firm of A. Brown, Ltd., also, but now asked that, as many Qf the shipments through the latter firm were below this minimum, and as the amount of labour involved in those consignment was the same, a special allowance shouid be made ini respect of same. Mr Seifert said that the. * Finance Committee had looked into the matter and considered that it was one lor consideration. If the Board paid at the same rate as had been given for the. other poles received. they would not be out of pocket. This was agreed to. FOXTON BEACH TOWNSHIP.
The Manawatu J3eaeh Improvement Committee forwarded applications from 41 householders at the Manawatu Heads (Foxton) asking that the beach township be connected up with the Board’s supply.—Agreed to. ACCOUNTS FOR PAYMENT.
Accounts totalling £2063 9s Id were passed for payment.
