OBSTRUCTION OF ROAD. Messrs A. and L. Seilert Flaxmillihg Company drew the County’s attention to the telegraph and telephone poles on the road, near palzeli’s Mill, these being stated to be so close together on either side of the road as to constitute a danger to traffic. . The Chairman stated that he quite agreed with the statement as to the danger, and suggested that the matter should be looked ino. The poles had been there lor some years, nm tiiey would have to be shifted. The matter was lelt to the Engineer to report on. QUESTION OF A FLOOD-GATE. The shannon Borough. Council wrote that they were of opinion that there was an agreement between the Horowhenua County Council and the original owner of Mr F. Bryant’s property that the culvert which Mr ant had blocked by a flood-gate was to be kept open. They asked if the Council would endeavour to trace this agreement. The County Clerk stated that the Shahnon Borough Clerk and Cr. Gardiner had spent a morning recently looking over the County Books and he had himself endeavoured to trace such agreement but without avail. The County Engineer said that it would be ridiculous to ask Mr Bryant to allow the water from this drain to run over his flat as would be done if the flood-gate which he had erected, were removed.

The matter was referred to the Engineer and councillors for the Riding lor an inspection to be made. SHANNON-FOXTON ROAD. The Poplar Fiaxniilling Co. applied to the County to effect improvements in the Shannon-Foxton road from the Shannon township to the Bridge, stating that the road was at present almost impassable. A further letter dealing with the same subject was received from the Shiftmen Borough Council. Tlie chairman stated that the matter was being attended to. A letter to this effect was forwarded to tlie complainants. 1 MANGAORE BRIDGE.

From Mr Janies Hallam drawing attention to the dangerous condition of the main road bridge over the Mangaore stream at ( Shannon, stating that the side rails were all down and the bridge dangerous to either vehicular or foot traffic. The Engineer stated that the rails had been knocked down by a lorry, but the matter was now being attended to. . From Mr J. D. McClure, Tokoma.ru, asking that the .footpath in front of bis property should receive attention.— The chairman stated that this was a matter which had been unfortunately over-looked.—lt was referred to OR Whyte to attend to. * TOKOMARU ROADING SCHEME. The County Solicitors wrote re .the proposed roading of the Tuwhakatupua Block at Tokomaru stating that Mr Akers asked that the Council lake over such work as has been done alter he first three miles have been completed to the satisfaction of the County Engineer and thereafter each, mile oi load as completed. The chairman stated that whilst some agreement to the effect that ila Couhty should take over alter three miles was completed, had been made, it was done with the idea that the settiers on this road would have access to a County road. It now transpired that the only outlet was across /The Rangitane Bridge, which was a private structure. If anything were to happen to this bridge and settlers were on this’ land tiiey would come to toe County ior an outlet. It would be advisable that the Council should coaler with Mir Akers regarding tins aspect oi the question.—Agreeu to. BEACH ROAD CULVERT. From Mr E. Referred to the Engineer and councillors for the Riding to confer with the settlers. \ . REFUSAL TO CLEAiN DRAIN. Mr Poni Hakaraia waited on the. Council re the cleaning out ol the drain which passed through the property or Mr. A. Thorne, this drain in its present state blocking water Irom getting away , from liis property- lug - er up He asked that the Council open up the drain as Mr Thorne was too dilatory about the matter. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote stating that the sum of £llß Ss applied for by tlie Council in respect oi work done on the road to the Heights Settlement would be paid provided the County could show that sit oh money had been paid to the soldiers lor the work done.
