OUTBREAK OF FIRE.
AT. SHANNON METHODIST CHURCH
An outbreak of fire occurred at the Methodist Church on Wednesday evening. The' 5 members of the' Young People's Guild were holding a social in the church and a kerosene stove was Being used in the porch at the rear of the church lor boiling water. It is believed the stove must have been leaking, &nd >; becoming overheated, burst into flame, quickly. igniting the wooden structure. lluo first sign of anything being wrong was noticed by a lady member who observed the blaze under the door leading into the church, she at once raised the alarm and on investigation It-.was found the porch was in flames. Fortunately a, good supply of water was available from a tank adjoining the building. A hole was quickly knocked in the tank and witii the assistance of willing helpers the water was poured on. to burning portion of the building, the fir© being quickly got under control, but not until the porth was totally destroyed. The main building, which is stated to be about thirty years old, had a narrow, escape arid it was only the fine effort put up by the helpers that prevented the whole building going. The damage is covered by insurance. In this issue the Church officials thank all those -who rendered assistance in extinguishing .the, fire.
