STANSELL DRAIN CULVERT. / The Engineer (Mr Edwards) stated ' he had interviewed ex-Cr. Stephenson in respect to the Stanseil drain culvert at Mr Bryaht’s property. He stated that Mr Pearce, the then owner of the property, put in the concrete culvert in order that part of the water

could go through the property 'to water liis stock arid he tnought Mr Pearce paid lor the culvert. He was’ inclined, to think that -there was an agreement between 'the Horowhenua County Council and Mr Pearce to the • above effect signed by the latter and to tlie effect that the culvert was to be kept open. The engineer stated lie had not met Mr Pearce since he had 1 consulted Mr Stephenson.—lt was tie-; cid-ed to write the Horowhenua Coun- ' ty Council' informing them that Mrj Stephenson thinks' there is a writtenagreement. j ENGINEER’S REPORT. | Tlie Borough Engineer (Mr R. Ed-' wards) reported as follows:—“I have; to report that all. tlie pipes have now been laid in position up the Mangaore I stream and connected up to the in-j fluent chamber and ' the , vaive pit built. There is yet some work to do in this district: in supporting the pipes at points where necessary. The laying of the 6-inch diameter pipe has proved a very difficult abd wet work, especially in the last few chains and frequently the men were working in a heavy current of water and to make matters Worse it was raiding. The plastering of the inside of the influent chamber is now completed. Within thu next -few days the men will be preparing for tlie laying of, the 8-inch diameter pipes between the reservoir and tlie town. The contractor tor the reservoir has completed the contract with the exception bf the valve pit and some minor matters. I. have to thank Mr Dinnie, the' 'Public Works department engineer, for contributing towards the road along the V bank of the Mangaore stream- over the Borough property, his contribution being a 16-inch'steel pipe for a culvert.”
