SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee was held m the schoolroom o.n Thursday evening when there was & lull. attendance of members, the chairman, Mr R. L. Tippler, presiding. A suggestion was received from th-> teachers that the basket' ball ground ba removed to a more suitable position. Mr Brown, promised to donate portable basket ball poles as these can be erected anywhere. Mr Brown was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by the committee for his donation. The matter of providing hot drinks in the middle of the day for- children coming.a distance was referred to. Mr Tippler said he had ascertained : the cost of a suitable Perfection stove would be £l2. He recommended getting a quote for electrical heating apparatus, light, etc. This was agreed to.

It was reported the furniture for the teachers’ room had been secured. Re the purchase of a new-copper the Education Board had offered to pay half the cost, but on being shown correspondence where they had promised to provide one, they had since'forwarded same..’

Mr C: Young’s tender of £7 for the work' of topping and trimming hedge around the school grounds was accepted. - Mr F. Newport waited on‘the committee and offered to procure and plant in the two plots in front of the school flowering and native shrubs for the sum of £5 and he would also,look after them for 12 months and would Replace any plants that may not oome on. Mr Newport’s offer was accepted.

It was reported that the swings which had been damaged had been satisfactorily repaired. Accounts totalling £33 12s 6d were passed for payment.
