BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB BALL.

' A SPLENDID SUCCESS. As anticipated, the ball (held • by. the combined committees of the 'Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Clubs in the Druids’ Hall on Friday 'evening was a splendid success, bath socially and financially. The hall had been tastefully decorated with paper streamers of red, green, orange and punpjle, representing the colours of each of the committees working in connection with the carnival. The supper room Was decorated with beautiful flowers, 'fie lights'-in both the hall and supper room being shaded. The ,&tage was arranged as a drawing room with carpets, easy chairs; and tables, where cards were provided for non-dancers, and the whole ■ presented a very pretty and charming scene and reflected great credit upon, those responsible for the decorations. A fine orchestra of eight performers, under the leadership of Mrs Butler, supplied, the music, which' was much -appreciated. The floor, which had been specially prepared, was in excellent order and although there was a large attendance, all the surrounding townships and districts being represented.; the 'hall was not so crowded as to be uncomfortable from the dancer’s point of- view. Mr W. Quarrie officiated in a most capable manner as M.C; The supper arwhich, were in -charge of a ladies’ committee representing the combined committees were excellent. A feature qf the evening was the splendid arrangements for hand 1 ing [the crowd -and the committee are 1o be complimented on their effort in malting the ,ball so -enjoyable and such a success. During the evening Mr"; J. T. Bovi-s, on behaflf of the committees of the 1 , oomhilned clubs, took the opportunity of thanking all. for their presence. He referred to the large number of visitors from outside districts, who, he trusted, would not regret the long journey some .had made. To a.ll the .guests he said that, if it gave them as much pleasure' to be present, 'as'it was for the clubs’ to welcome them, then the evening would be enjoyable to all. He paid, a high tribute to the orchestra, under tlie leadership qf Mrs B-ut-: ;ler for the assistance they had ren- ! d-ered and to the '.ladies and gentle--1 men. of the combined clubs for their | untiring efforts to whose work the success of the evening wes mainly due.
