TUESDAY'S MEETING. Tlxe usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough .Council was held in the Council (Cambers o&, Tuesday eveniiug. Present: His Wonsiilp the Mar yor (Mr W. Murdoch), > afid Crs. Bdnvd, Gunning, Carter, (Butt, Gardner and the engineer (Mr Edwards). CORRESPONDENCE. From Public Trust Office re certain repairs to house hi stout Street as requested by the Health Inspector, asking the Council to aillovv the work to be left in abeyance in the meantime, as the place will be taken over by the beneficiaries at an early date, and they are desirous of having the repairs effected in accordance with their wishes.—The Public Trustee to be given notice that 'work niust be done within the next three months. From Mrs B. T. Curran .re improvements..to shop owned by her in Plim-" mer Terrace as instructed by the Health authorities, stating the im-

ROADMAN'S REPORT.
The Borough roadman (Mr Haley) reported as follows:—I have carted 75 yards of metal on to the following strqets: Stout, N Gl|aph|am v Stafford, Julian, Grey and IJallanc'e and •Pliiruner Terrace". The water tables in Ballance Street, Main Noah Road a»d Gre.v" Street, have been cleaned. I .have also trimmed in metal in Grey Street, and have put in four hours spreading metal on the .same street. Seventeen loads ot rubbish have been collected and carted to the tip on Levin road. WATER ON SIIAN-NOX-FOXTON - ROAD. Gr. to Mr Burling, manager of the property, requesting him to remove the ' flood gate from the drain and to allow the water free egress; also that the matter-be placed before the Horowhenua County Council. JOIiNTING THE WATEK PIPES. /file Engineer asked the Council if
they wished, him to do the-jointing or f thy pipes in connection with the water supply or did they intend leaving it to the contractor 'for the pipes, the Wanganui Spiral Co. tie contended if he did "the work, a saving of £6O could be effected and he would guar- . u-uteo it being satisfactory. » • The Mayor pointed out that tlie original contract witli the company was for the company to do;.the"work, and take full responsibility, at the same time giving' a guarantee of 35 per .cent, on the cost .of pipes (over £700) that, the work would be satisfactory.. If the Council did the work ■ they would lose guarantee and have to.take tiie responsibility. . lie said the guarantee- was for six months with the pipes currying a lull pressure of water. Cr. Carter moved that the, original contract be adhered to. Cr. J3eard in seconding the motion said he did so on account* of the trouble that arose at Blenheim, owing to faulty jointing which was done by the Council. By keeping to the original agreement the Council was relieved of .responsibility.—carried. GENERAL.
On the suggestion of the Town Clerk, now, that the town has been cleaned up in regard to r-uibbish, it WLUj decided 'to not|ly tihe H|eaiih **Oflicer tliat tills has been done so that he can make a house to house inspection.
Cr. .Gunning . asked ,what was being done with the plots in Piimmer XerraSe now they liavo -been-plough-ed. He recommended they be ienced and put in small plots una let lor the cultivating of them, as he considered thaJt would he the best way to';,gut the land to the ! Mayor to attend to.
