HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
WEEKLY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the' Horowhenua Rugtby Union, was held on Tuesday, Mr J. W. Rimaner, in the absence of the president, being voted |to the chair. Also present Messrs I O'Connor, Austin, Hardie, O'Rourke, i Bobinson, Hutchings/Hiniock and the I secretary, Mr L. Carmichael. ! CORRESPONDENCE. The Manawatu Union wrote asking that a representative game be arranged for June 21st, the return game to nu arranged later. They asked that the names of suitable referees be submitted. Mr O'Connor moved that as it had already been decided that this game should be played in Foxton that it be left in the .hands of Messrs Austin, Jlutchings and Robinson to make arrangements lor the game and for hospitality to the- team. Mr T. O'Rourke was appointed manager ill line team. BEBBINiGTON SHIELD. The secretary of the Bush Union wrote', stating that he was personally to bla.me for the trouble over tire BeWwugton Shield fixture. BangifP kei and liorowhenua had, he stated, both sent in- challenges last year, and he had, withouit authority from his Union written accepting Hoi-o-whernia's challenge. His Union had ruled that challenges could only be accepted for each playing- season" and that as Rangitikei was first in this season they must get prior consider-' at.ion.—Received.
The Woodville Club wrote granting McHerron's transfer to the Weraroa Club. SOUTHERN TOUR. N
The Golden Bay Union wrote offering 50 per cent, of the gate takings lor a representative game played in their district, with a .minimum of Lit). The Marlborough Union made a, similar offer, minimum £4O. —Received. A number of clubs forwarded, their balance sheets. Gatekeepers and referees' reports were also received. INSURANCE. : Insurance ■ lor three weeks' incapacitation, amount £3, in ihe case of, R. Wells, wais passed for payment. The 1 secretary was instructed to write to the Te.Horo Club notifying them that the clulb insurance must be paid forthwith. i AUSTIN BANNER. It was decided that all schools within the Union be written to regarding the Austin banner. Mr Hufchings asked if there was any age limit to players in primary schools, stating that a, youth of hi was 'attending, one o|f the schools within the Union and it Wits hardly fair that ihe should play against young boys. Mr O'Connor stated that this matter had been a cause of trouble in connection with a cnlcket competition. It had been ruled in consequence, that an age limit be. fixed. He thougiht" thhjt ! the same proceedure should be followed in this case. The secretary stated that the general feeling among school-teachers was that an age limit would-niake it difficult to get a team. JK 'was decided that the matter could be arranged by consultation between the local delegates and masters of schools. '-Acounts totalling £•£ lis were passed for payment. NOTICE OF MOTION. The following, notice of motion wu b handed In by the secretary: ••'That the minute regarding an order to doctors on the Union from players for playmeuit in the cast oi accident, be deleted." GENEUAT. Mr Hardie asked that the ShannoiiFoxton third grade game should bo replayed at the end oi the season, should the game make a difference to tiie result of. the competition. .'There bad been trouble 'about getting a car and part of the team did not arrive ' until tiie game was practically over. Mr Hutcliings stated tnat. las ciuj, was in sympathy with the Shannon players, who had stated when tney j arrived thait the reminnder oi the I team was on the. read. The Shannon j team had played 'tiie'game with eight men only. The secretary said 'that the mattoi was in the hands of the Union, the rules stating that where a team was unable to.travel fhrougn no taujt ot their own the Union might coiiside, the replaying of the game. It was agreed that the game be replayed subject to the Foxtou Club's approval. . * '* PROTEST AGAJNST 1 tEFEREE.
Mr Hardie entered a protest against the referee of the .Shannon—Hui Mai Senior game, whose rulings were, he stilted not according to rules. Mr O'Connor said that as no formal protest was received from the Shannon Club, the case could not be dealt with. The secretary suggested ' that the matter should be'.referred to the Referees' Association.—Agreed. SHANNON FIXTURES. Mr O'Connor mentioned the fact that Shannon had no (home games ■last Saturday and <as a member of the Fixtures Committee, he expressed regret at the fact. Shannon was, he said, one of the chief football centres in the Union, and he trusted that it would not occur again. The seerelrajry expl|W.ned that the trouble had resulted owing to the fixtures not having come out equal. It had been necessary to give the Shannon Thirds two byes in order to work in the rounds". Tlie matter was regrettable, bujt had foeen unavoidable. Care would be taken, however, to see that it did not occur again. ; A hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
