Tlie above' match took place at the Shannon Recreation Grounds on Saturday afternoon in/boisterous Weather. Neither team bad their full strength, Shannon playing lour substitutes, viz.,'"S. Pedersen, H. McDonald, Spring and .MclSwan,. while Wcraroa were without the. .services of llangi Broughton, who was on the line suffering from the effects 01. a sprained aititle. The game was mainly a forward one but at times the \Veraroa backs endeavoured to open up the game, though the greasy ball and the bad state of the ground made this impossible. The game was evenly contested Weraroa only notching victory jUst on the call ol', time. Weraroa kicked off and soon had ■ Shannon hard pressed. How-, ever, shannon reversed the onslaught, and had Weraroa defending their line, the latter forcing ,Shannon twice in quick succession. From the kick** out Weraroa again became aggressive and by dribbling rushes carried play to -Shdnnon 25, ; where, Hemingsen, the full-back lor .Shannon, tumbled owing to the greasy ball. The Weraroa lorwariis just Triissed scoring. Shortly after from a five yards scrum Hopa secured; the leather and worked ids way -through, thereby drawing first blood, in favour of Weraroa. He took the kick himself and added the major points. On the ball going out Shannon took a turn at the ®ffensive and from a forward rush llewi MoyniiLa.il scooped up the balj and beatiiig the opposition, scored. Eagle failed to add the extra points.. A lew minutes alter MpynihaJi,' who' was playing the best forward game on the field again scored for Shannon. Sands took the kick but missed. At this stage Spring hurt his knee and retired, Williams who had arrived late, taking - bis place. The second spell opened with both teams all out for a .win, and a fast gaiuie was wit- , nessed. Both tennis indulged 'in dribbling rushes and tlie ball was nip and down the field throughout the spell, both sides om several occasions going close to scoring. Finally Hakaria, just on tlie call of-time, was successful in scoring, thus giving a victory to Weraroa by two points. The, game ended: Shannon 6, Weraroa 8. Mr N. Devon had control of tlie game. During the .second spell an unfortunate accident occurred, when Bartholomew, wing three-quarter for Shannon, collided with an opposing player, and on examination it was found’liis knee had been fractured. Dr. Macdonald, who was in Levin, was telephoned for and he immediately returned to Shannon and attended the unfortunate man, who in the meantime had been removed to the Club Hotel by willing helpers.
