STRIKE TRAFFIC DAMAGE.
NO GOVERNMENT GRANT To LOCAL BODIES. A letter received by the Shannon Borough Council from Mr J. Linklater, M.P., makes it clear that the Government will give no financial assistance towards repairing the damage done to roads by'heavy traffic during the striße period. Mr Linklater stated he had placed the matter before the Public Works Department who had informed him that no grants were being made' by - the Government at present in respect \ to damage done to roads by the extra ordinary traffic caused through tho l railway strike. The Department had .•helped local bodies/in. every possible manner during the strike by lending lorries, rollers and other equipment, but could not'grant monetary assistance. If it is decided plater that.counties and boroughs-shall be assisted in this manner, the writer will seeVtliaii Shannon Borough shall "have its Hue ■' consideration. A letter is to be forwarded to Mr ' : Linklater thanking him for his efforts.
