PICTURES ON BREAD.

A 'proposal has been submitted to the Miian Health Department for having words, ligures or illustrations on all kinds of bread. The object, would be advertising' of all sorts. The process consists of impressing on the raw dough a metal stamp willh the wording- etc., required. .The stamp would be immersed in a harmless and colourless liquid, having, among other things, a small quantity of bicarbonate of soda in solution. The heat of the oven turns the treated portion of the bread to a dark brown colour so that the word or illustration will show on the crust.

The Health Department, while approved the process as quite practical an>d harmless, expresses the opinion that it is. very doubtful whether the profits, if any. which bakers might derive from this sort of publicity will induce them to reduce the price of bread.
