TO BAFFLE PUNTERS.
A FREMANTLE SCHEME. An intefesting and novel proposal is now being considered by West Australian racing clubs, by which it is sought to ehninate to a great extent street betting, and force those wtho wish to follow the sport to. attend the courses.
In the past publication of the race programme on the day of the races and the results as soon as the races were run, provided kerbstone-race enthusiasts with, almost the same facilities' as afforded to those who attend the course. The scheme put before the clubs is to. publish race programmes as usual, but clubs to reserve the right to run the races in an ■ order to be decided on the day of the race, and that ah outside communication with the courses be pre-
vented. It is hoped by this method to baf--fle the punters outside the courses, and make it extremely difficult for unregistered bookmakers to operate. In . parts Qf England where the scheme is said to be in operation, it i$ claimed that the attendances at the courses has increased by over 60 per cent, within the first few months of inauguration.
