GOLF NOTES.
OPENING DAY ON SATURDAY. The golfing season is here once again and already tide new Shannon course lias .been wall tested by enthusiasts of the game. Situated on high rising ground, free from floods, and dry; even in the wettest of weaI ihci, with a view stretching bey and . the'limits ol’ the Wellington Province golfers are offered a ground that will be hard to beat. A great deal of • work has been necessary in prepara- | tion of greens, fairways, stiles, etc., I but already Mr Hayes has wrought { wonders, and consequently the club. I will be able to open its season next ) Saturday, May 3rd. With the number of new players coming forward a record membership is promised. At the last committee meeting sixteen new members were proposed, and should next Saturday afternoon be fine the links will no doubt- be fully occupied. The play next Saturday, will take . the form of mixed foursomes, which ; will be made up at the golf-house be- ' fore starting. Play is to commence . as soon a,s possible after ,1.30 p.m. Cards may be obtained before stajrting play.
All now players are requested to study thoroughly die rules of play so that icifll penalties and rules of etiquette may be rigidly observed. Special attention j s called to the local rules Which wall be pasted at the “house” before next Saturday. Fluittihier notes regarding opening day will appear in Friday’s issue of the “News.”
