HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tlie following matters' were dealt with at Saturday’s meeting of the Horowlienua County Council: Manakau Tramway. Mr. J. Mitchell waited on the Council on. Ixilnilf of the Manakau Sawmilling Co. in connection with a proposal to : lay a tramway along north Manakau road from Mr. Bird’s property to the bush. The Company offered to pay a subsidy towards tlie County and also to carry free of cost any goods required by settlors along tlio tramline. The chairman explained that such a tramway could only be enacted at the pleasure of the Council. Subject to this ’ he considered that permission might be granted. This was agreed to, a committee consisting of the Chairman, Cr. for the Riding and tlie Engineer being appointed to arrange details. Waihioangia Bridge Mhter/al. Mr. D. Corrigan waited on the Council in regard to a swing-bridge, to be erected to his property at Othki, and asked that some of the timber from tine Wuihoanga Bridge and also the cables .from that structure should be allowed him for the work.

The chairman explained that this material belonged to the special grant given for thie purpose of erecting the bridge, and the County could not very well’dispose of them. If later this material were disposed of Mr. _ Corrigan’s application would be, considered.
