UNUSUAL ACCIDENT.
MAN SEVERELY BURNED
A rather unusual accident occurred at Mr Cockrane's garage, on Wednesday last. Mr Cockrane, assisted by one-of'his men named Mitchell, were engnged in removing an, engine irom a car After finishing the work they used benzine toi remove the grease arid oil from their arms. Mitchell, in shaking his arms to remove the benzine evidently splashed some on to a candle which was placed some 20ft away and the parts .of the- engine which were .on the floor close by immediately burst into flames which readied the ceiling, of the building, Mitchell also "becoming enveloped. Mr Cochrane, who was close by, immediately wrapped a.rug over Mitchell and it was only this quickness and nresencc of mind on tihe part of Mr Cockrane that saved Mitchell from being seriously injured. As it was he was "severely burned about the arms and will be incapacitated for some days. In the meantime the flames among the engine parts were extinguished before any damage was done. It was a narrow escape from serious consequences and demonstrates the danger or liffhts.hßing used where there is benzine, even though the light may be some' distance away.
