WERAROA NARROWLY DEFEATS Y.M.C.A. . .

'.- Weraroa and Y.M.C.A. met at-the Domain on Saturday, in the presence of the largest crowd .which has attended a local 'Cricket game this season. The weather was perfect for the game which was a very exciting one. The teams' old (rivalry was wellknown and the match had attracted a degree of interest which was evidenced in the numbers present and the applause which greeted. every advantage secured by either side. Those present were not disappointed in their expectations and the game was anybody's up to the last moment, Weraroa winning by 9 runs on the first innings. Weraroa went in. first, Pringle, Hughes and Conder going quickly, and Weraroa.'s supporters were becoming .nervous when O'Connor, the Weraroa.'captain, took the bat and carried it- in. first class style. Field and Auckram had been bowling well up to this istage, hut O'Connor soon got their measure and began putting them,to the iboundary. Field, who captained/ for Y.M.C.A., replaced Auckram with Widdas at the bowling end, but without effect and O'Connor totalled 68 out of the 91 runs compiled by his side and carried his bat. He was lucky, however, as he gave four good chances in deep field, which Weraroa failed to take advantage of. Of the oither Weraroa .biaitsmen, Davis and Fiance held their' wicket up for O'Connor to score at the other end.

Y.M.C.A., going to the wickets, opened with Auckram and Moodier the pair making a good start,, playing Pringle and Sloan, in good style. S'loan was sending down some very good balls, Auckram being beautifully caught by Marslin off Sloan. Widdas, the next man in, looked like .staying, but was run out by a quick return from Bull. Guthrie, who shaped well in the field, turned .out rathe;' a disappointment with the bat. The next pair, Field and Edwards, got going in style and things began to look anxious for Weraroa, O'Connor being well .punished at times. Pringle replaced Sloan at the other end. Field and Edwards kept the score moving until O'Connor got one past him and shortly after Sloan caught Edwards in the slips off Pringlie, a beautiful catch which merited the applause with which it was received.

The game was now* becoming close and excitement was growing. Y.M.C.A. required 20. runs and with four wickets in hand and were batting stubbornly. Thompson and Harris carried the score along, but.Pringle was now right on the job* and bowled both cleanly. The others were not up to- form and went rather easily. Weraroa's fielding was first rate, being' considerably above the standard of Y.M.C.A. Results . are as follow:
