SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting oi the Bprougih Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, present: The Mayor (Mr W. , Murdoch) and Crs. Gunning, Hyde, Curran, Butt, Gardner and Carter. CORRESPONDENCE. From G. Hardie making application for, a settlement regarding the fences surrounding house purchased by hun from the Council.—Mr Hardie to be informed that it is a matter between him and the adjoining property owners. I From Mr Ghrystall, Mayor of Foxton, submitting suiumary of report on investigations of Hamilton Borough Council .on the use of concrete pipes, for sewerage systems, which, showed that there was no sign of deterioration upon'the Internal surfaces of the pipes, and that they had proved quite satisfactory where in use.— to thank Mr Chrystall for, the information supplied. GENERAL. The commlittee appointed by the Executive of the Domain Carnivai submitted to the Council lor their approval, estimates of cost for tile draining the Doniain and ploughing, discing, rolling and sowing down in grasses of the same; also cost of lopping the trees.—-On the motion of Cr. Hyae it was decided to approve oi the work as submitted being carried out and that the executive be given full authority to go on with it. It was resolved that the preliminary application for a further £SOOO L connection with' the water scheme be applied for immediately. THE WATER WORKS SCHEME.

The engineer (Mr Edwards) reported that the laying of the pipe track in connection with the water supply was progressing satisfactorily, and they were now down to the road near MiHennessey's property on the East road. Works Department had put in a concrete culvert 4ft 4in to take all the water from, the flat, which he said was nowhere near, sufficient to take tihe water, and he pointed out that when the arrangement was entered into with the Public .Works Department in respect to the banking, of the Mangaore stream it was agreed that the De- . pajrtment should put "in a culvert sufficiently large enough to carry the water; also that a.bridge should be erected over the stream in Sheehan street, ?which had riot -been done. Cr. Curran said there would have tp be a bridge as there were ratepayers on. the other side of the stream who >h]a'd) now b%en cut off and they would|haye to be considered. Councillors werfe agreed that tin work should be carried out as arranged wiKh the Public Works Department and on the motion of Cr. Hyde, seconded by Cr. Butt, it was decided to-write the Under-Secretary and bring undier his notice the arrangement with the .Department re the outlets and bridge., Further complaints were received in respect |p the water alleged to be discharged* from Mr Bryant's property on to the Shannon-Foxton road.—The" Mayor stated the Town Clerk had written the Horowhenua County Council for information as to tftp position between them and the owner of the property, and" the clerk (Mr Hudson) had rang up to say he was making enquiries—Decided that the matter he held over until next meeting. The tender of Mr E. F. Spencer o. £397 was received for additions to .the Borough Council's house in Stout street.—The Council were of the opinion that the tender was too high and on the motion of Cr. Hyde it. was decided to request 'the Engineer to prepare a schedule of timber required for doing the work together with an estimate of cost, after which tenders be called for labour only ' The Town Clerk said (he had notified Mr Christian that his tender had been accepted for the lease of a Borough section, but had received no replv from him. and .he was now waiting for him to sign - up.-Mr Christian to be written tc-askmg him to comply with the conditions of the Cr.' Gardner said in regard to the laying down of pipes from. Stout, street along Vogel street, whicli had been recommended by the Council ;it was now found that thie- distance was.greater than estimated by about seven chains and the 12-inch p pes; requimi would cost about £BB. As the Council have not got sufficient money at present to do the work it was decided to'hold it over. Tncnc .
