BOWLING.
The Shannon Club, which took the Manson and Barx Cup from Levin on the previous Saturday, were met and deleated by a Palmerston North rink on Saturday afternoon by 22 to 14. The day was beautifully hue anu the green was in good order. Shannon rink was H. Butt, Gagliardi, Quarrie, and Whibley (skip), and the Palmerston North rink: Howling, Wilson, Wilson and Trott( skip).. Shannon was up against a solid team which practically comprised the rink which defended the Hern Cup for a dozen times in succession.
Shannon started off well, gaining 11 points to their opponents 2 at tliu end of the Bth head. Palmerston North then settled down to it and scored on the next 9 heads, the score being 17 to 11 in their favour. Shannon scored a two on the 18th head, and one on the 20th, leaving them 5 down. On the last head Palmerston North added a three to the score.
The president (Mr E. J. Spencer), in handing over the Cup to the Palmerston North skip (Mr Pratt), congratulated the team on their win and wished them continued success. Mr Pratt suitably replied and regretted taking the trophy from the Shannon Club, who had proved themselves such fine sports. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ during the progress of the game and also to the players before departing. Mr Wilton delivered thanks on behalf of the team for the kind hospitality shown them and then called for three hearty cheers for the ladies. Feilding are the next challengers for the CUp and will play Palmerston North next Saturday. A detailed report of the play on Saturday will' appear in our next issue.
