WOODEN SCHOOL BUILDINGS.
Rotorua, February 11. The Fire Brigades’ Conference resolved that, “In view of the heavy financial loss through the constant destruction by -fire of school buildings erected in wood, and the dislocation of teaching routine through these fires, the conference views with much con- ; cern the resolution of the Minister for Education to construct all new schools in wood, and considers it a serious mistake economically and educationally and in regard to the safety of the : children.” The conference decided to ! send a copy of the resolution to the Minister for Education, members of Parliament, and local bodies interested, with a recommendation that the plans for school buildings should be submitted to the Government Inspector of Fire Brigades. The conference -‘resolved to ,ask the Municipal- Association to pass a resolution in favour of the standardisation'of street hydrants, fixing the minimum diameter of future • inch. . Jit j
