BAND CONTEST AT PALMERSTON.
STARTS ON MONDAY. The glories .of "Flying 'Dutchman," and the varied charms of Rossini's "William Tell" will .be given many interesting and beautiful interpretations nest week at the forthcoming Palmerston North baiid contest. A record entry of 16 bands has been made, including celebrated musical combinations from both. North and South Islands. In addition to brilliant soloists of .the Dominion, several instrumentalists from Sydney are coming and as these contests are all in the open-air, the week of music and marching will .be delightfully seasonable. Monday afternoon is the civic reception, at night trombone solos and trios. Tuesday night A and B. grade tests when "Flying Dutchman" will be \l\e star attraction. Wednesday afternoon t!ha( popular qu'ickstep. Fulleir particulars appear elsewhere. Excursion fares are promised by the Railway Department.
